Hugh Jackman’s love letter to Neil Diamond is his latest film, Song Sung Blue. The Neil Diamond–inspired musical tells the true story of a middle-aged Milwaukee duo who found unexpected success as a Diamond cover band in the ‘90’s. Drawn to the project through the 2008 documentary that inspired it, Jackman frames the film as both a tribute to the couple, and a meditation on artistic perseverance.

When speaking to reporter Bryan Alexander ahead of this shoot, Bryan said that what makes “Song Sung Blue” so special is that its Hugh’s first time playing a blue-collar, working class showman (after being The Greatest one too). I thought to play off of this with an Americana flair using a DIY-y star drape, as well as some red velvet curtains as an homage to his Broadway history too.

Hugh is effervescent, inimitable, and truly a star ⭐️

Deeply grateful to David Baratz and the USA Today photo team for the opportunity; and deeply grateful to Kamil Szczepaniak for helping me bring this to life.
